While many suppliers offer a large range of choices, it’s still limited by what they think will sell. That said, it can be a great option if you’re easily overwhelmed by lots of design possibilities. A more limited selection will help you design your kitchen without a ton of stress. If you’re in the midst of a kitchen or bath remodel your list of decisions is even longer. You’ll need to choose everything from paint color and hardware to backsplash and grout color. Prefab comes in polished mostly, however there are a few prefab colors that are available in a honed or leather finish.
Prefab granite countertops absorbs heat from the hot pans. In the worst case scenario high heat can cause the granite to soften and can also remove the coat of sealant which protects it from stains. Either system works fine, but if this is your first go at this type of project, you’ll find the iron on end caps easier to install. Just keep in mind you’ll need to do a bit of filing in either case to shape the end caps. To fit our design requirements, we chose square corners for all our edges. If you want any rounded corners on exposed edges, discuss this with your supplier ahead of time and ask to see sample profiles.

It’s similar to both quartz and granite in durability and function. Travertine comes in warm creamy neutral browns and beiges colors, reminiscent of the classic Old World Style. Because the colors are neutral, other colors accents can be combined with it to give your kitchen a different look and feel.
The easiest approach is to order custom-made laminate countertops (ours cost about $30 per running foot) from a local home center, full-service lumberyard or cabinet/countertop shop.
